I was inspired by graphic design at an early age. Growing up in a college town in the late '60s through the '80s meant there was a plethora of posters, stickers, t-shirts and album covers to feast my hungry eyes on. I have many memories of painstakingly hand-lettering my own posters and signs for whatever I or anyone wanted. I enrolled in every art class I could all through school.
After a swerve into the world of broadcasting, I returned to the path after being hired at Denver's Rocky Mountain News in 1990. It was there that I learned the real craft of design and printing from old-school tradesmen. With ten years of daily newspaper experience under my belt, I worked for some small graphic design studios before starting what eventually became A Cuppa Creative in 2003.
Top three things I love about what I do:
- Attention to detail. Getting things lined up just right on a page, picking just the right font, paragraph after paragraph with no hyphenated line breaks – these are some of the things that make my day.
- The ability for a good design to inspire in very little space and a short amount of time.
- Helping businesses and non-profits reach out and speak to their target audiences in an effective and efficient manner.
